Avon Youth League Under 16s, Division 2, 12/02/17

Longwell Green 0 Keynsham Town 5 (HT 0-1)

Keynsham scorers: Alf, Max, Ozzie, Luke & Toby.

A very cold breezy Coronation Park Playing Fields was the venue for the first league meeting of the two sides, with Longwell Green unfortunately only fielding a 10 man team.

Keynsham today had Luke, Tommy & Will on the bench with Adam, Harrison & Ben away in hot Ghana!

As to be expected, from the kick off Keynsham applied early pressure with most of the play taking place in the Longwell Green half. There was good passing build up play at the back from Brendon, Alf, Dan & Charlie who had more time on the ball than last week.

Despite some showboating and scrappy play, Keynsham created numerous early goal scoring chances but they were unable to be taken.

On 15 minutes however, a low cross from Toby on the left hand side was driven home from close range by Alf for a 0-1 lead to Keynsham.

Miles also came close with a headed attempt on 25 minutes and Toby shot over the bar from a free kick just outside the box.

To the credit of 10 men Longwell Green, the half ended at 0-1 following some resolute defensive play and good goal keeping.

The second half saw the introduction of Luke, Will & Tommy and within minutes of the kick off Keynsham were awarded a penalty for a foul on Sam Harris.

Max elected to take and coolly drove the ball low to the keepers right for a 0-2 lead.

Frantic play in the midfield followed with Keynsham pressing very high up.

Longwell Green had a good break away ‘one on one’ chance following a defensive slip but Reegan came off his line well to intercept the ball.

On the hour, following sustained goal mouth pressure, Ozzie stroked the ball past the keeper from inside the box for a 0-3 lead to Keynsham.

Reegan had a quiet afternoon but was forced to make one world class save, diving outstretched to his right to fingertip the ball onto the post, following a screaming volley from the Longwell Green No3.

There was some great work down the wing from Owen, who was awarded a dangerous free kick for a foul outside the box. Being on the right hand side it was tailor made for Luke who delivered in a left foot shot that made its way through a crowded box and bounced over the keeper for a 0-4 lead.

At the end, two forward headers from Ozzie and Will put Toby through on goal who slotted the ball past the Keeper’s right to make the final score 0-5 to Keynsham.

A very spirited display from the ten men of Longwell Green and especially their goal keeper, who made a number of fine saves to keep the score respectable in the circumstances.
